In the year 2030, dream pods will be introduced into the interior environment within the Architecture building at Curtin University, to facilitate student well-being and create a transient passage through the display of ones expressive dreams.

THE DREAM POD

EXTREME, COMPLEX AND BIZARRE STUDIO

(3RD YEAR)

The aim of this design unit was to stretch our understanding and application of design methodology towards speculating on and imagining new visions for the future by focusing on extreme, complex and bizarre environments. I explored Philosophical and theoretical readings from the Situationists (Utopian Educational System) and Sigmund Freud’s theory of the unconcious to inform my design. Similarly, material and technological realities were also explored to further enhance my design decisions

CONCEPT

A PSYCHOGEOGRAPHIC UTOPIA; CREATING A TRANSIENT PASSAGE THROUGH VARIED EXPERIENCES.

THE SITUATION

In 2030 i envision a new unified form of atmospheric experiences created through the use of dream technology, where your creative subconscious in the dream state is displayed and explored by occupants in the building.

CLIENT

Design students in the Architecture building, all who possess creative minds.

Due to the intensive life of a UNI student, a place to take a nap and recharge within the architecture building is wanted. They would also like an integrated and interactive technology in order to create an ephemeral utopian education system.

DESIGN

The introduction of dream pods into the interior environment within the Architecture building will facilitate both a functional device to improve the human condition, and a device to unlock the power of the creative imagination and display it as an unconsciously designed artwork.
